What We Are Doing Now

At present the Fund is focusing on The Lotus Children’s Centre in Mongolia . You can see details of this fantastic project on our Funded Projects page and also on their own website at www.lotuschild.org.

Hutul Lotus Youth Centre

We are continuing to fund the setting up of the Hutul Lotus Youth Centre in the north of Mongolia and collect child sponsorships for the approximately 140 children in the care of the Centre. We also collect goods in kind to send to the Centre.

In addition to the ministering to the needs of the children at the Centre itself, The Lotus Centre is reaching out to a wider demographic of young adults and youth in need within the community.

This is especially critical in the isolated mining towns in the far north of the country where there are few occupations for young people who are especially at risk because of easy access to alcohol.

“It has also been noted that alcohol abuse could be Mongolia’s biggest stumbling block to economic and social progress, with women especially falling victim to a daily round of vodka-fuelled violence. 69% of school-age youth report drinking alcohol”
(WHO global Status Report on Alcohol 2004).

By establishing the Lotus Youth Centre in Hutul, in the north of Mongolia, there are hopes of alleviating the causal problem of this early drift to alcohol - aimlessness and lack of recreational facilities for the youth, which has lead to a crisis of alcoholism pervading the country, beginning with young adults, and in some cases even children. The Lotus Youth Centre will provide classes in computer, English, a café and pizza parlour and Library and Reading Room. New projects and classes will be added over time.

Packages for Lotus

We regularly send items in kind to The Lotus Children’s Centre. Mongolia is a cold country with a long, harsh winter and there is always a need for clothing. We send winter children's clothing of all sizes (near new and new) woollen and knitted jumpers, warm coats, skivvies etc.

We also send summer clothing (near new and new), children's shoes ( near new and new),chldren's underwear (new only) and medical aids - children's multi vitamins, head lice shampoo, children's cough mixture.

Annual Christmas Present Drive

Also every September we have a Christmas present drive so that each child had a gift to unwrap for their coinciding New Year Celebrations. We request gifts to be wrapped and a note on the outside for sex and age group suitability. NB: We do not encourage soft toys as Mongolian children don't seem to take to them.

Our goods are kindly shipped from Perth to Mongolia free of charge by ADG GLOBAL SUPPLIES. And thanks to The Rotary Club of Mount Waverley, the goods are packaged and arrive safely in Perth at no charge to The Lotus Centre.

The Lotus School

The Lotus Children’s Centre runs its own Lotus Primary School and school materials, educational aids, exercise books etc are in constant demand. These items can be sent with the other packages of clothing.
